According to Volume 4 of Dr. Joseph Lewinski Bloch's biography (page 325, 329-331) the concert took place on 21st February 1949 in Portland. Bloch relates the performance in a letter sent from Agate Beach on March 12th 1949 to his sister Loulette where he tells her he will send a copy of the 8 double faces discs "even if the orchester was not good". He also tells her the huge success of the performance with an audience of 4000 attendees all singing the ending hymn twice and a 4 minutes applause. An article (anonymous) including a Bloch's photo, and named "Not for the Snobs" has been published in Time, New York, vol 53, 7 March 1949, pp. 82-85 |
