Malgré ses origines juives, l’italien Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco a composé régulièrement des œuvres sur des thèmes bibliques.Castelnuovo-Tedesco a écrit une méditation musicale d’une douce simplicité sur « Evangélion », une série d’histoires épiques mais rarement entendues du Nouveau Testament, entendues ici dans leur intégralité pour la première fois. lyrisme touchant et drame efficace. Elle commence par l’Annonciation et se termine par les Dernières Paroles et la Résurrection.
« Evangélion » a été écrit en 1947, Il aurait pu être inspiré par une visite au couvent d’Alcoman au Mexique.
