Joseph Beer est né le 7 mai 1908 à Chodorów (province de Lemberg, la Lwów polonaise, annexée à
l’Empire Habsbourg.) Un garçon voit le jour - Joseph Beer. Fils d’un banquier juif, Uri
Isidore Beer, et de son épouse au foyer, Amalie Esther Malka, l’enfant
grandit au sein d’une famille unie et aisée ; auprès de lui un frère aîné
et une sœur, sa cadette de quatre ans. Le père est un homme strict,
exigeant. La mère compense les rigueurs paternelles par une tendresse qui
lui vaut l’indéfectible attachement - presque fusionnel - de son fils
